Last Shipment of Pakistani Basmati Rice Arrives in Bangladesh Under Historic Government-to-Government Deal

Islamabad:The final shipment of Pakistani basmati rice has successfully reached Bangladesh, marking a historic moment in trade relations between the two countries. This shipment, part of a government-to-government (G2G) agreement, represents the first-ever rice purchase between Pakistan and Bangladesh since the latter’s independence in 1971.
According to official sources, Bangladesh has received a total of 26,250 tons of basmati rice under the G2G arrangement. The final consignment arrived on Friday, completing the agreed-upon transaction. Under the terms of the deal, the price of the rice was set at $499 per ton.
This development marks a significant milestone in Pakistan-Bangladesh relations, as it is the first time in over five decades that the two governments have engaged in a direct trade agreement for rice. The move is expected to strengthen economic ties and open the door for future collaborations between the neighboring nations.
While the rice deal has been welcomed by both sides, it is seen as a symbolic gesture of growing cooperation and a step toward revitalizing trade relations in other sectors as well.
