Landslides in Kerala, India Result in 23 Deaths and Numerous Missing
Islamabad:According to reports from Indian media, severe landslides triggered by heavy rains have devastated multiple homes in the Wayanad district of the Kerala state. It is feared that scores of people are trapped due to landslides, with many still missing.
Media reports confirm that at least 23 individuals have lost their lives as a result of the landslides. Authorities in India have expressed concerns over the situation, highlighting that many people have been swept away in the Chaliyar River in Nilambur. In addition, several buildings, shops, and vehicles have been buried under debris in Mandothi.
The situation in Mandothi is compounded by the difficulties in conducting rescue operations due to a bridge being washed away, prompting Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to instruct the construction of a temporary bridge to facilitate rescue efforts.
Chief Minister Vijayan further announced that helicopters will be used to rescue people stranded in Mandothi.
