Lahore High Court Hears Contempt of Court Petition Over Omission of “Honorable” Before Chief Justice’s Name
Lahore: A petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court against the omission of the term “Honorable” before the name of the Chief Justice in the notification for the appointment of new judges. The petition, which seeks contempt of court proceedings against Secretary Judicial Commission, Niaz Muhammad Khan, was heard by Justice Farooq Haider.
The petitioner, Advocate Afaaq Ahmed, argued that it is a legal requirement to use “Honorable” before the names of Chief Justice and judges, as per established judicial norms. He requested the court to initiate contempt proceedings against Niaz Muhammad Khan for issuing an ambiguous notification.
The Registrar’s Office raised an objection to the petition, asserting that the notification was correct and the petition was not maintainable. However, the court directed the Advocate General of Punjab to assist the court in light of higher judiciary’s rulings.
The case has sparked a discussion over the legal protocols in official notifications regarding the judiciary.
