Lahore High Court Hears Case on Shaving Off Offenders for Kite Flying and Firing; Orders Strict Action

Lahore:The Lahore High Court (LHC) has conducted a hearing regarding the controversial incident where individuals involved in kite flying and aerial firing were publicly shaved as punishment. During the hearing, the court ordered that the decision be circulated throughout Punjab and warned that if such an incident occurs again, the concerned District Police Officer (DPO) will be held responsible.

The hearing was led by Justice Ali Zia Bajwa, who also sought a report from the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab. In compliance with the court’s order, the DIG of Operations and DIG of Security appeared before the court, along with the Prosecutor General of Punjab, Syed Farhad Ali Shah.

The court was shown a video of the offenders being shaved, and Justice Bajwa questioned the DIG Operations, asking, “What are you people doing?” The DIG acknowledged the mistake, calling it a significant error, and assured the court that such an incident would not happen again. He further stated that any material shared in the future would be subject to approval from the concerned SP.

Justice Bajwa appreciated the police for arresting those involved in aerial firing but made it clear that the court would not tolerate such public humiliations. The DIG assured the court that such serious mistakes would not be repeated, adding that any future misconduct would be recorded in the respective officer’s portfolio.

The court also noted that six months ago, an undertaking had been given by the IG Punjab, yet similar incidents continued to occur. The DIG responded by saying they were trying to prevent such events, but Justice Bajwa firmly stated, “We need results, not attempts.”

The court further inquired whether the authorities were aware of the incident where people were shaved. The DIG replied, “No, I was not aware of it.”

A lawyer present in the case mentioned that the social media page in question did not belong to a DIG, but seemed to be linked to a TikTok user.

The Lahore High Court has adjourned the proceedings until tomorrow, emphasizing that stricter measures need to be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
