KP Government Receives Notice in Case Against Sugar Export Ban

Peshawar: The Peshawar High Court has issued a notice to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government in response to a petition challenging the ban on sugar exports. The petition, heard by Justices Syed Arshad Ali and Mohammad Ijaz Khan, was represented by Advocate Ishaq Ali Qazi.
The lawyer argued that the provincial government is not permitting the export of sugar, which he claimed is detrimental to sugarcane farmers. The ban on sugar exports is feared to lead to a significant loss of foreign exchange. The petition further contends that the provincial government lacks the authority to impose such a ban and that there are ample sugar reserves in the province. The ban is reportedly causing billions of rupees in losses to the petitioners and could also result in financial damage to the provincial government.
Following the hearing, the Peshawar High Court has directed the KP government to respond by August 15.
