Quetta:Kohlu city observed a shutter-down strike in protest against police firing tear gas, shelling, violence, and the forced arrests of leaders and demonstrators of the Baloch Unity Committee in Gwadar. Additionally, a protest rally organized by the Baloch Unity Committee was held in response to their call. The rally emerged from Bank Chowk and proceeded to block traffic at various intersections in the form of a sit-in.
Addressing the participants, officials stated that no law in the world prevents citizens from protesting peacefully. Unfortunately, Balochistan is a region where people are not even allowed to protest for their rights. For the past week, the state has imposed a complete curfew across Balochistan. Mobile and internet services are suspended, restricting people’s movement entirely.
They added that while Balochistan’s people suffer under state oppression and hunger, international organizations should take note of the current crisis in Balochistan. They questioned whether Baloch should go to India to protest if they cannot protest for their rights in their own land. They emphasized that instead of using force, the state should recognize the constitutional rights of demonstrators and engage in negotiations with them.
The movement will not end with enforced disappearances, mutilated bodies, curfews, violence against protesters, and arrests. The recent deaths in Balochistan have awakened the entire province. The demonstrators concluded by demanding the immediate release of Raji Machi’s leaders and other demonstrators of the Baloch Unity Committee.
