Kidnapping of Kakr Photographer: Justice Jamal Mandokhail Raises Serious Questions on Balochistan Government

Islamabad: During the Supreme Court’s hearing on the suo motu notice, Justice Jamal Mandokhail raised grave concerns over the Balochistan government’s response to the ongoing kidnapping case of a photographer in Quetta. Justice Mandokhail remarked that despite the fact that the child had been missing for six days, no efforts had been made to locate the child. He added that protests in Quetta had brought the city to a standstill, yet the provincial government seemed indifferent to the crisis.
He pointed out that while the entire province was shut down due to the abduction, the government appeared unconcerned. “Balochistan government is failing to locate a single child,” he said, emphasizing the increasing prevalence of child abductions in the region. He further noted that every second case coming to the court involved child kidnapping, and criticized the committee formed by the Supreme Court to address child abductions, stating that it had yet to take any action.
Justice Mandokhail also questioned the role of the Frontier Corps (FC) in social welfare despite billions being spent on the force, suggesting that their resources could be better utilized to address pressing issues like child protection. Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi echoed similar concerns, highlighting the troubling sight of children begging at traffic signals in Karachi.
