Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government Imposes Curfew in Kurram District Following Attack on DC

Kohat:The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to impose a curfew along the Parachinar-Tal Road to restore peace and ensure the safe delivery of food supplies in Kurram district. This decision follows the attack on Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kurram, Javedullah Masood, on January 4, 2025, and the disruption of food convoy shipments in the area. Additionally, the authorities have filed an FIR against 30 suspects, including Abdul Qadir and Abdul Rahman, for their involvement in the attack on the DC.

On Sunday, a high-level meeting led by the Chief Secretary and IG of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was held in Kohat to discuss security concerns, the incident involving the DC, and the interruption of food convoys. The meeting decided to hold the tribal elders who signed the peace agreement in Kurram accountable for enforcing the peace terms.

According to a statement released after the meeting, the authorities decided that all individuals involved in the January 4 attack would be named in the FIR. They will face anti-terrorism charges, be placed on Schedule 4, and be arrested as part of the legal process. The tribal elders who signed the peace agreement will be responsible for handing over the perpetrators, and failure to comply will be met with strict consequences.

The statement also mentioned that there would be immediate action taken for the arrest of the accused. Strict administrative and security measures will be implemented along the Tal-Parachinar road, Tora Warai, and Shashu Road to ensure the safety of the area. Additionally, any type of compensation or assistance will be withheld from the region until the perpetrators are handed over.

It was also decided that any government employees found supporting sectarian violence would face disciplinary action. The authorities have warned that if the peace is not upheld and those involved in the attack are not handed over to the government, strict measures will be taken in the affected areas.

To facilitate the transport of food supplies, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced that Section 144 will be imposed in Kurram, and a curfew will be enforced on the roads during convoy movements. Any person carrying weapons will be treated as a terrorist.

In case of non-cooperation or further violations regarding the handover of the accused, the local population may be temporarily relocated to ensure the success of the clearance operation.

Furthermore, the authorities will announce bounties on the heads of various insurgent leaders. The District Police Officer (DPO) of Kurram will be provided with riot control equipment and additional resources, including female police officers. Police will remove any illegal roadblocks and crowds on the Tal-Parachinar road.

To ensure the safety of the Tal-Parachinar road, the police will be reinforced with the required personnel, and additional law enforcement agencies, including the FC, will be deployed as necessary.
