Karachi’s National Stadium to Honor Legends Younis Khan and Shahid Afridi with New Enclosures

In a grand tribute to legendary Pakistani cricketers Younis Khan and Shahid Afridi, the enclosures at Karachi’s National Bank Stadium will be renamed in their honor. This gesture will be part of a significant renovation project at the stadium, which is nearing completion ahead of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025.
According to the decision, the Majid Khan Enclosure will be renamed the Younis Khan Enclosure, while the Quaid Enclosure will be dedicated to Shahid Afridi. Furthermore, the Zaheer Abbas Enclosure will be renamed the Nazar Mohammad Enclosure. Newly constructed patron enclosures will be named after iconic cricketers Zaheer Abbas and Majid Khan.
The stadium’s renovation includes the construction of a five-story building, equipped with modern facilities, including ICC Anti-Corruption and Anti-Doping Units, physiotherapy rooms, and rooms for match officials on the ground floor. The dressing rooms on the second floor are almost complete.
On the third and fourth floors, 24 hospitality boxes are under construction, which will accommodate up to 1,000 spectators. The fifth floor, housing the Chairman’s Box and Admin Block, is in its final stages.
Two new digital scoreboards are also being installed, with the main screen measuring 80×30 feet. LED floodlights, similar to those in Australia and South Africa, are being mounted on six poles, ensuring a spectacular viewing experience for spectators.
Comfortable seating arrangements are being made for the audience, including some seats relocated from the Qaddafi Stadium. VIP pavilions will offer exclusive seating around the newly constructed building, while a modern pathway for players to enter the field is also in development.
It is worth noting that domestic matches have been affected due to the ongoing renovations. The final of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy was moved to the UBL Ground, and the first Test match against the West Indies was played in Multan.
