Islamabad: A letter from Justice Mansoor Ali Shah has come to light, revealing significant discord among Supreme Court judges, specifically targeting Chief Justice Faiz Isa for fostering division. In his correspondence addressed to the Registrar of the Supreme Court, Justice Shah expressed his decision to refrain from participating in a full court reference, asserting that the Chief Justice has failed to protect judicial independence and has overlooked external pressures on the judiciary.
Justice Mansoor emphasized the role of the Chief Justice as a protector of citizens’ rights and criticized Chief Justice Isa for dismissing the importance of judicial decisions. He claimed that the Chief Justice even suggested non-compliance with court rulings, leading to a lasting impact on the judiciary.
The letter detailed Justice Shah’s concerns about Chief Justice Isa’s inability to foster judicial harmony and respect among colleagues. He also recalled his previous refusal to participate in a reference concerning former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, citing similar reasons for his lack of participation.
Justice Mansoor concluded that instead of addressing judicial interventions, Chief Justice Isa has exacerbated the situation, likening his approach to that of an ostrich burying its head in the sand. The letter raises serious questions about the current leadership within Pakistan’s highest court and the potential repercussions for the judiciary’s integrity.
