Joint Action Committee of Balochistan Universities Demands Review of Balochistan Universities Act 2022
Quetta:The Joint Action Committee of Balochistan University leaders, including Professor Dr. Kaleemullah Bariach, Shah Ali Bugti, Nazir Ahmed Lahri, Farid Khan Achakzai, Naematullah Kakar, and Gul Jan Kakar, expressed serious concerns during a cabinet meeting of the provincial government regarding the Balochistan Universities Act 2022. They called for the formation of a special committee comprising provincial ministers to review and amend the act promptly.
It was highlighted that the Balochistan Universities Act 2022 was hurriedly passed in the provincial assembly without due consultation on rules and regulations, leading to a severe administrative crisis in all universities of the province. The statement emphasized that the policy-making bodies, especially the Senate, Syndicate, Academic Council, and Finance and Planning Committee, had curtailed democratic and accountability processes by eliminating the elected representation of professors, officers, employees, and students.
The statement further demanded that the special committee of provincial ministers ensure genuine representation of professors, officers, employees, and students in all policy-making bodies to establish good governance practices in universities. They insisted that accountability mechanisms should be upheld through all these policy-making bodies.
The Joint Action Committee of Balochistan Universities and other university representatives will meet with the specially constituted committee of the provincial government to present recommendations for educational and province-friendly amendments in the Balochistan Universities Act 2022.
