Jasprit Bumrah Wins ICC Sir Garfield Sobers Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2024

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced Jasprit Bumrah as the winner of the prestigious Sir Garfield Sobers Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2024 award. Bumrah, the Indian fast bowler, becomes the first Indian fast bowler to win this coveted honor.

The competition for the award was tough, with Bumrah competing against the likes of India’s Jasprit Bumrah, Australia’s Travis Head, England’s Joe Root, and Harry Brook. ICC stated that Bumrah had an outstanding year in 2024, playing a crucial role in leading India to victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Additionally, Bumrah was the highest wicket-taker in Test cricket in 2024, claiming 71 wickets in 13 Test matches.

Bumrah becomes the fifth Indian cricketer to win the Sir Garfield Sobers Men’s Cricketer of the Year award, following in the footsteps of legends such as Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Virat Kohli.

Expressing his joy, Bumrah shared, “Winning the Sir Garfield Sobers Award is truly an honor for me, and I am deeply grateful for the encouragement. The year 2024 was very special, as we not only won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup but also performed well in other formats.”

It’s noteworthy that Bumrah also won the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year 2024 award earlier this year.
