ISLAMABAD: Jannat Mirza, one of Pakistan’s most popular TikTok stars, has shared insights into why she chose social media over traditional cinema. In a recent interview, Jannat explained that she decided to pursue a career on TikTok instead of entering the film industry, despite her brief attempt in cinema with her debut film *Tere Bajre Di Rakhi*, which did not perform well at the box office.
Jannat Mirza, who boasts over 10 million followers on Instagram, highlighted the shift in entertainment preferences among today’s youth. According to her, the younger generation prefers the comfort of their homes, using mobile phones to scroll through social media platforms like TikTok rather than going to cinemas. She pointed out that cinema tickets are expensive, making it difficult for individuals to afford tickets for an entire family.
She also emphasized that today’s youth enjoy the convenience of watching content at their own pace. “They want to stay at home and scroll through TikTok, and they can watch me anytime they like. That’s why I prefer TikTok over cinema,” Jannat said.
Reflecting on her early TikTok journey, Jannat revealed that she started by making “cringe” videos when that was the trend. At that time, these videos were popular and garnered more views. However, she noted that trends have evolved since then, and the content style has changed accordingly.
