Quetta:Jamaat-e-Islami organized a protest demonstration and sit-in outside the Quetta Press Club, addressing issues such as rising electricity prices, inflation, and increased taxes. The protest was led by Hafiz Noor Ali and included a symbolic funeral prayer for Hassan Nasrullah Shaheed.
Following a call from Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan’s Amir, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, local leaders gathered to voice their dissatisfaction after the government failed to act on their demands within 45 days. Protesters chanted slogans against corruption, inflation, and the plight of missing persons, as well as against the United States and Israel.
Key speakers, including Maulana Abdul Haq Hashmi and Maulana Abdul Kabir Shakir, emphasized the need for action against the rising costs and called for the termination of IPP contracts. They warned that if the government continues to ignore their demands, they would escalate their protests with long marches, roadblocks, and a campaign to refuse payment of utility bills.
Hashmi criticized the government’s failures, stating that citizens are becoming increasingly dependent on charity due to economic mismanagement, and accused the ruling elite of exacerbating the situation. He condemned the inaction of Muslim leaders regarding Palestine and highlighted the struggles faced by the people of Balochistan, including rising violence and insecurity.
The protest highlighted the disconnect between government claims of restoring infrastructure and the harsh realities faced by the public, urging the administration to take immediate action to address the pressing issues.
