In Karachi, Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan’s Amir, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, issued a stark warning to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, suggesting that if current conditions continue to worsen, the Prime Minister might not even have the chance to reach the airport. Speaking at an ongoing protest at the Governor’s House Sindh against heavy gas and electricity bills, oppressive taxes, and unfavorable agreements with IPPs (Independent Power Producers), Hafiz Naeem criticized the government’s handling of the nation’s affairs.
He accused the rulers of pushing injustice to its limits, claiming that foreign entities now have de facto control over Pakistan and that the country is unable to make its own decisions. He highlighted that the current budget has suffocated salaried individuals, leaving them struggling between paying taxes or managing their households.
Hafiz Naeem warned that while Jamaat-e-Islami does not seek confrontation, widespread public unrest could make it extremely difficult for the Prime Minister to escape or even make it to the airport. He urged the Prime Minister to address the public’s demands before the situation escalates further, urging for an end to what he described as fraudulent taxes and an interest-based economy.
He asserted that if the demands are not met, the protests could escalate to include sit-ins at the Governor’s Houses in Lahore, Peshawar, and Quetta, with road blockages as part of the movement to remove oppressive rulers. Hafiz Naeem called for a reduction in electricity prices and accurate billing, and urged the government to act wisely before the Jamaat-e-Islami appeals to the public to withhold bill payments.
