Karachi:Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has warned Prime Minister that if he wants to avoid public anger, he must address their demands, or else the ongoing sit-in movement might jeopardize his tenure as Prime Minister.
Addressing protesters sitting in front of the Governor House in Karachi, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman criticized the Prime Minister and ministers for their contradictory statements. He claimed that while they acknowledge the feasibility of Jamaat-e-Islami’s proposals in meetings, they publicly dismiss them. He emphasized that reducing electricity bills is essential for the government’s survival.
Hafiz Naeem highlighted that salaried individuals are paying 368 billion rupees in taxes, bearing the entire burden, while income tax is not collected from landlords. He declared that this situation cannot continue.
The Jamaat-e-Islami leader warned that if the government fails to meet their demands, the sit-in protests will extend from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Balochistan. He stressed that the Prime Minister must address public demands to avoid further escalation, or the sit-in movement could potentially threaten his position.
It is noteworthy that Jamaat-e-Islami is also staging a protest in Rawalpindi against IPPs (Independent Power Producers) contracts, high electricity costs, and additional taxes on salaried individuals, in addition to the ongoing sit-in outside the Governor House in Karachi.
