Islamabad:Hafiz Naeem-ul-Rahman, leader of Jamaat-e-Islami, has declared the commencement of nationwide protests against inflation and Independent Power Producer (IPP) contracts across the country. Addressing demonstrators in Rawalpindi, he announced that protests have already begun outside Governor House in Karachi, with plans for subsequent demonstrations in Lahore, Multan, and other cities.
The Jamaat-e-Islami leader demanded a reduction in electricity prices and called for an audit of IPP contracts. He warned the government of a two-day deadline to meet their demands, stating that if their demands are not met, protests will continue. He also announced plans to observe Palestine Day on August 3rd and Kashmir Unity Day on August 5th.
Rahman emphasized that despite previous negotiations, a second round of talks between the government and Jamaat-e-Islami could not be arranged. The party has presented its ten demands before the government committee, highlighting their stance against inflation and IPP contracts.
