Islamabad:Jamaat-e-Islami has announced the continuation of their sit-in protest in Rawalpindi until successful negotiations with the government regarding high electricity prices and taxes are achieved. The second round of talks between Jamaat-e-Islami and the government team is scheduled for today, where the government negotiating committee will brief Jamaat-e-Islami on the findings of the technical committee.
Following negotiations with the government team yesterday, Liaquat Baloch, while speaking to the media, mentioned that discussions had taken place in a conducive environment. While an agreement has been reached to continue negotiations, the sit-in protest will also continue.
On the other hand, Atta Tarar, the head of the government’s negotiating team and Minister for Information, stated that most of Jamaat-e-Islami’s demands pertain to electricity issues. Efforts are underway to resolve this matter expeditiously. He also mentioned that if international market prices decrease, relief would also be provided on petroleum products.
Addressing the protesters, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Amir Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman stated that they should not repeat the mistakes of the past in delaying demands. He assured that their sit-in will conclude only upon the acceptance of all their demands, emphasizing that containers cannot obstruct their path. He reiterated their commitment to securing relief for the public rather than allowing the business of IPPs to continue indefinitely.
It is worth noting that Jamaat-e-Islami’s sit-in outside Lyaqat Bagh on Murree Road has entered its fourth day. Today’s session will include a women’s gathering where Jamaat-e-Islami’s Amir Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman will address the participants.
