Rawalpindi:Jamaat-e-Islami, the party leading the protest against heavy taxes on electricity bills and inflation in Liaquat Bagh, has accepted the government’s invitation for negotiations. The sit-in, which saw a large number of activists gathered at the protest site for the second consecutive day, had been ongoing.
Earlier this week, a government negotiation committee extended an invitation to Jamaat-e-Islami for talks, which the party has now agreed to. Jamaat-e-Islami has formed a committee for negotiations with the government and has put forward its demands.
The first round of talks between the government and Jamaat-e-Islami is scheduled for today. Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, the leader of Jamaat-e-Islami, and Liaquat Baloch welcomed the formation of the negotiation committee.
Following a meeting between the government negotiation team and Jamaat-e-Islami leaders, the protesters have dispersed from the sit-in site. The government negotiation committee has briefed Jamaat-e-Islami leaders on the committee’s structure and mandate.
