Islamic Jamaat’s Protest in Rawalpindi Enters Sixth Day as Negotiations with Government Continue

Islamabad:The sit-in by Jamaat-e-Islami in Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi, demanding a reduction in electricity prices, has entered its sixth day.

A second round of negotiations between Jamaat-e-Islami and the government is scheduled for today at 3 PM.

In his address at the protest, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Amir, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, stated that paying electricity bills has become impossible for 98% of the population. He questioned whether people should pay electricity bills or send their children to school, and announced plans to start a similar protest in Karachi today, with an imminent declaration for a Lahore protest as well.

Hafiz Naeem also mentioned that the business community supports their cause, and they plan to hold a nationwide wheel-jam strike based on their suggestions.
