Islamabad:Speculations loom over the Supreme Court of Pakistan once again, following Justice Qazi Faez Isa’s tenure, regarding its stance on potential governmental transitions. If so, it could mark another judicial pivot for the ruling PML-N, but a promise of “justice served” for PTI.
In recent days, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, formerly associated with PML-N, expressed concerns that the Supreme Court could target the February 8 elections post-October/November. This suggests the end of the Shehbaz government. Conversely, PTI leader and former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser hopes that the judiciary will “return the stolen mandate” to PTI and position the party for governance in December.
Notably, fears within PML-N and hopes within PTI align with the upcoming tenure of Chief Justice Mansoor Ali Shah after Justice Isa’s retirement. Khawaja Asif urged courts to avoid “political decisions” and make rulings that enhance their respect. He questioned why the judiciary didn’t notice the 2018 election results earlier.
A few days later, Asad Qaiser discussed on Geo News with Shahzeb Khanzada that he hoped for improved conditions by December and was confident PTI would secure enough seats in the National Assembly to form a government.
Former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser appealed to the judiciary to consider PTI’s applications against evident rigging in the February 8 elections. He anticipated that electoral tribunal rulings would increase PTI’s presence in the National Assembly. He expressed hope that PTI could be positioned to form a government in Islamabad by December this year.
