Irfan Siddiqui Says PTI Could Have Gained More from Negotiations, Urges Continued Dialogue

Islamabad:Senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Irfan Siddiqui, has stated that if Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had participated in the recent round of negotiations, they could have secured more than expected. Speaking in an interview with a private TV channel, Siddiqui criticized PTI for presenting their demands during the third negotiation session and then publicly declaring that the government had failed.

Siddiqui emphasized the importance of democratic dialogue, saying that discussions should be a two-way process where both sides sit down and listen to each other’s concerns. He confirmed that the negotiation committee would remain in place until January 31, highlighting that despite PTI’s current shift towards other political parties, it is crucial for dialogue to continue.

Addressing concerns surrounding the alleged raid on the madrasa of religious leader Hamid Raza, Siddiqui clarified that no such raid had occurred. He explained that the police presence near Raza’s house was due to a political rally being held in the area, not due to any specific operation.

Regarding the controversial amendments to the PICA (Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act), Siddiqui expressed that he was not aware of the changes and had no role in the process. However, he acknowledged that journalists’ concerns regarding the act were valid and should be addressed. Siddiqui suggested that if the Constitution can be amended multiple times, similar revisions could be made to the PICA Act to make it more in line with democratic principles. He also raised concerns about why the Ministry of Interior was handling the PICA Act, given its significant implications.
