Ireland Ranks as the World’s Most Powerful Passport According to Nomad Passport Index

Ireland has been ranked as the world’s most powerful passport holder, according to the Nomad Passport Index, which evaluates passports based on various factors such as human rights, security, tax policies, dual citizenship, personal freedoms, and global perceptions of the country.
The Nomad Passport Index considers five main categories for ranking: visa-free travel, taxes on citizens, dual citizenship, personal freedom, and the global view of the country. Based on these stringent criteria, Ireland has emerged at the top of the 2025 list. With an Irish passport, citizens can travel to 176 countries without requiring a visa, and the country performs well in other categories as well.
The index also ranked Greece and Switzerland jointly in second place, both with a score of 108, while Portugal secured the fourth position. Malta followed closely in fifth, and Luxembourg, Finland, and Norway shared the seventh spot.
The United Arab Emirates, New Zealand, and Iceland were ranked tenth, making it to the top 10 as well.
Interestingly, countries like Japan and Singapore, despite their global prominence, did not achieve high rankings due to policies on dual citizenship and taxes, which are more restrictive compared to other nations.
**Weakest Passports**
On the other hand, Pakistan was ranked among the weakest passports, securing 5th place in the list of weakest passports. In the broader 199-country ranking, Pakistan was placed at 195th. The countries below Pakistan in the rankings were Iraq (196th), Eritrea (197th), Yemen (198th), and Afghanistan (199th), which were ranked at the bottom.
