Inflation Soars in Final Days of Ramadan as Eid Approaches, Government’s Efforts Fall Short

Quetta:In the provincial capital of Quetta, inflation continues to rise in the final days of Ramadan, with no relief in sight. Despite the government’s establishment of stalls to control prices, these have remained largely inactive due to the lack of interest from the district administration and the price control committee. As a result, the public is left at the mercy of price gougers and hoarders, with no one to hold them accountable.
With Eid approaching, the lower and middle-income classes are finding themselves unable to enjoy the festive occasion due to soaring prices. Government agencies responsible for controlling inflation have failed in their duties, and the purchasing power of the people has significantly declined. Essential items such as food products, vegetables, fruits, and other necessities are becoming increasingly unaffordable, with shopkeepers, vegetable vendors, milk, and meat sellers setting prices at will, with no oversight.
Despite regular statements from the government claiming a reduction in inflation, the reality on the ground tells a different story. Public sentiment suggests that these claims are merely a façade, as inflation continues to rise rapidly. Day laborers and the middle class are struggling to make ends meet, with basic items like cooking oil, sugar, spices, lentils, and rice also seeing sharp price hikes.
Citizens have urged the government, price control authorities, and organizations responsible for setting food prices to take concrete actions to ensure that daily necessities are available at affordable prices, allowing people to breathe a little easier during this difficult time.
