New Delhi: The Indian Army has been granted the authority to directly monitor social media content. According to Indian media reports, the army will now be able to issue notices to remove content related to its operations and personnel.
The Indian Ministry of Defense has appointed a senior officer to oversee this initiative, which falls under Section 79(3)(b) of the Information Technology Act. This new capability allows the army to request the removal of illegal content from social media platforms without relying on other governmental departments, as was the case previously.
This development marks a significant shift in the Indian Army’s approach to managing its online presence and addressing misinformation.
