Increase in Sexual Assault Cases Against Minority Women Under Modi Government, Report Finds

Mumbai: Sexual assault cases against minority women, especially Dalit women, have significantly risen during Narendra Modi’s 10-year rule, according to an international media report.
The report highlights that under Modi’s tenure, the safety of minority women, particularly those from Dalit communities, has been severely compromised. High-caste Hindus have reportedly been using sexual violence as a weapon against Dalit women.
The report further criticizes India’s justice system, claiming it has failed to deliver justice for victims. Perpetrators of sexual assault often go unpunished, while the victims and their families are left to struggle for justice.
A Dalit mother of a rape victim stated, “Because we are Dalits, high-caste Hindus raped my daughter, and then blamed her for the incident. The villagers even ostracized us, and we have no hope of receiving justice under Modi’s government.”
Human rights activists have pointed out that although the Indian constitution has laws against sexual violence, these laws are not effectively enforced. The Supreme Court of India, they say, has failed to provide justice for Dalits. Hundreds of Dalit women have fallen victim to the brutalities of Hindu extremists, with no justice forthcoming.
The growing number of sexual assault cases against minority women, especially Dalit women, during Modi’s rule underscores the deepening insecurity and lack of protection for women in India.
