Increase in Currency in Circulation and Decrease in M2 Recorded in Pakistan

The volume of currency in circulation in the country has increased on a weekly basis, while there has been a decrease in the money supply (M2), according to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan.

As of the week ending on February 14, the volume of currency in circulation reached 9,524 billion rupees, marking a 0.4% increase compared to the previous week. The volume of currency in circulation for the previous week was recorded at 9,490 billion rupees. Since the beginning of the current fiscal year, the volume of currency in circulation has increased by a total of 4%.

According to the State Bank, the volume of M2 (money supply) for the week ending February 14 was 35,285 billion rupees, which is a 0.5% decrease compared to the previous week. The M2 volume for the previous week was recorded at 35,460 billion rupees. Since the start of the current fiscal year, M2 has decreased by a total of 3.5%.

Furthermore, the volume of bank deposits for the week ending February 14 was recorded at 25,713 billion rupees, showing a 0.8% decline compared to the previous week. The volume of bank deposits for the previous week was 25,921 billion rupees.
