Lahore: Qasim Khan, the son of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has stepped into the spotlight to campaign for his father’s election as Chancellor of Oxford University. This move comes amid significant backlash against Imran Khan’s candidacy.
According to reports from the British newspaper Daily Mail, Oxford University has been inundated with angry emails and petitions opposing Imran Khan’s nomination, with many arguing that he is an unsuitable candidate for the prestigious position.
Qasim Khan has taken to Instagram to vigorously support his father’s nomination. His recent Instagram story features the slogan “Abba for Chancellor” and calls for making it a reality. He also shared a link to a news article from The Week, detailing Imran Khan’s nomination for the role.
Oxford University is set to announce candidates for the Chancellor position in October, with elections scheduled for October 28. The new Chancellor will be elected by an online vote of approximately 250,000 alumni and former staff, and will serve a 10-year term.
Notably, Imran Khan, who is currently imprisoned in Adiala Jail, has already submitted his application to run for the Chancellor position. PTI leader Zulfi Bukhari confirmed this development earlier this month on X (formerly Twitter), stating that the application has been filed as part of a historic campaign that requires widespread support.
