Imran Khan’s Release Hindered by Multiple Cases in Islamabad and Rawalpindi
Islamabad: Former PTI chairman Imran Khan’s release is facing delays due to 16 cases filed against him in Islamabad and 3 in Rawalpindi. Despite the court granting bail in the Toshakhana case, Khan remains in prison as the ongoing legal proceedings in both cities pose significant obstacles to his freedom.
According to Express News, the cases registered in Rawalpindi related to the October 5 protests are proving to be a major hurdle. Three cases were filed against Khan in Rawalpindi under anti-terrorism laws, though he has yet to be arrested in these cases. The charges are registered at different police stations, including Naseerabad, New Town, and Taxila.
Additionally, there are five cases from the May 9 incidents in which Imran Khan was granted bail. However, his release has been delayed as the surety bonds required for his bail have not yet been submitted. Once the sureties are provided, the Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi will issue his release orders.
In Islamabad, Khan faces 16 other cases, most of which are linked to the events of May 9. These include charges such as terrorism, obstruction of government work, and violation of Section 144. These cases have been filed at various police stations, including Kohsar, Noon, Korral, G-9, G-10, Aabpara, Margalla, and Tarnol, among others. His bail in these cases has not yet been granted, and the court is expected to receive the surety bonds on the following day, which could pave the way for his release in Islamabad.
Once all the necessary legal formalities are completed, including submission of the surety bonds, Khan’s release could be processed, pending approval from the respective courts.
