Imran Khan Threatens Civil Disobedience if Demands Are Not Met

Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has warned the government that he will launch a civil disobedience movement starting from December 14 if his key demands are not met. The announcement comes after the apparent failure of PTI’s ‘Do or Die’ protests, which aimed to secure his release and garner support for his party.
Imran Khan took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to announce the formation of a five-member negotiation committee that will engage in talks with the federal government on two major issues. The issues include the release of “political prisoners” currently facing legal proceedings, and the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the violent crackdown on PTI supporters during the protests on May 9, 2023, and the crackdown on PTI demonstrators on November 26.
The former prime minister made it clear that if his demands are not fulfilled, he will proceed with the civil disobedience movement, starting on December 14. In addition to the political prisoners’ issue, Imran Khan also announced a major rally in Peshawar on December 13 to pay tribute to the martyrs who, according to him, were killed during the Islamabad protest.
He claimed that many PTI workers are still missing and urged the Supreme Court to take action against violations of human rights. Imran Khan emphasized that PTI had approached the Supreme Court, Lahore High Court, and Islamabad High Court regarding these serious human rights abuses, but no action had been taken so far.
