IMF Sends Mission to Pakistan to Review Key Issues, Including Judiciary and Governance

Islamabad:The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has dispatched a mission to Pakistan to review various critical matters. According to sources, the IMF mission commenced its work on Thursday, February 6, and will continue its assessment until February 14.

The IMF team is currently focusing on reviewing the appointment of judges and the independence of the judiciary. Additionally, the mission is also evaluating banking and anti-money laundering systems in Pakistan. A major area of focus for the IMF team is governance matters within the country.

Sources further revealed that the IMF mission will meet representatives from 19 ministries, departments, and organizations, including meetings with the Judicial Commission and the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The mission’s primary focus is to strengthen the rule of law, combat corruption, and enhance financial oversight.

The mission was planned last September, and next week, it will hold a meeting with the Judicial Commission to discuss the judicial appointment process. The IMF team will also conduct discussions with the Supreme Court regarding the independence of the judiciary.

According to sources, the IMF mission will finalize its assessment and release a report by July. As per the $7 billion agreement, Pakistan is obligated to publish a comprehensive governance report.
