IMF Delegation Arrives in Pakistan to Discuss Funding for Climate Change Mitigation

A delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has arrived in Pakistan to initiate discussions on funding to mitigate the impacts of climate change. On Monday, the IMF team began their meetings with an introductory session at the Federal Ministry of Finance.
Following this, the delegation held talks with officials from the Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) provinces. The discussions covered topics such as planning, finance, and climate change, with a focus on green budgeting, climate tracking, and reporting.
According to sources, the IMF delegation engaged in discussions about climate budgeting projects and the importance of addressing climate change through effective financial strategies. Pakistan is expected to receive approximately $1.5 billion to address the effects of climate change, with the government having officially submitted a request for this funding.
On Tuesday, the IMF team is set to meet with representatives from Punjab and Balochistan to continue their discussions.
Federal Finance Minister Mohammad Aurangzeb stated that the IMF’s technical mission for climate financing will remain in Pakistan for three days. He also mentioned that another IMF team would arrive next month to discuss a bailout package for the country.
