Karachi: Authorities in Sindh have uncovered the illegal sale of carbon dioxide (CO2) cylinders in LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) markets, prompting Ogara to take decisive action. According to Express News, information was received regarding the mixing of carbon dioxide in LPG at various locations in Sindh, particularly near Sukkur, leading to raids conducted by the Assistant Commissioner of Panu Aqil. Following inspections revealing unsafe conditions and the use of substandard equipment for storage instead of proper LPG tanks, Ogara convened a high-level meeting chaired by Chairman Masroor Khan.
During the meeting, authorities from enforcement, legal, and LPG inspection teams participated, expressing concerns over potential risks to public safety and properties due to these hazardous activities. Ogara affirmed their commitment to eliminate such illegal practices using all legal options available under their regulations, aiming to safeguard valuable lives and properties of the public.
In light of these findings, Ogara has decided to utilize all legal means to end these illegal activities, directing their legal advisor in Panu Aqil to pursue the case rigorously and present Ogara’s viewpoint for the protection of the public. Ogara has also communicated directives to the Commissioner of Sukkur and the Customs Collector to ensure local-level protection by halting the illegal sale of LPG in the area.
It is important to note that CO2 is highly flammable gas, posing lethal risks when mixed with LPG, including negative environmental impacts. Such actions raise serious safety concerns as improperly prepared equipment for LPG can fail to operate effectively, potentially leading to severe safety hazards.
