ICC Approves Hybrid Model for 2025 Champions Trophy, Co-hosted by Pakistan and Dubai
Islamabad: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has approved a hybrid model for the 2025 Champions Trophy, which will be jointly hosted by Pakistan and Dubai. This decision follows an agreement between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to address security concerns.
Under the new model, matches will be split between both locations. The league-stage games, including the crucial match between India and Pakistan, will be played in Dubai. Furthermore, the semi-finals and final will also take place in Dubai. However, should India be eliminated early in the tournament, these matches will be relocated to Pakistan’s cities of Lahore and Rawalpindi.
In another major development for Pakistan cricket, the PCB has also secured the rights to host an ICC Women’s tournament, set to take place after 2027. This decision reflects the growing international confidence in Pakistan’s ability to host global cricket events.
The 2025 Champions Trophy will be held from February 19 to March 9, and the hybrid model is seen as a significant milestone for Pakistan cricket. Not only will it help bring international matches back to the country, but it will also address logistical and security challenges effectively.
