Quetta:According to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan’s (HRCP) 2023 report, Balochistan has witnessed a concerning rise in crime rates, including significant instances of gender-based violence. The report highlights that in 2023, law enforcement faced severe challenges with 137 police personnel killed in attacks by armed militants.
The data collected by HRCP’s media monitor, Tang, reveals a troubling picture of violence against women in the province. The report details at least two incidents of domestic violence and 14 cases of sexual assault. Additionally, there were 22 honor-related killings and 43 murders involving women.
The statistics further include 24 cases of rape, 28 honor killings, 4 blasphemy cases, and 9 police encounters. These figures were provided by Balochistan Police in response to an HRCP request for data on human rights abuses and crime.
The report underscores the urgent need for effective measures to address gender-based violence and enhance the safety and security of women in Balochistan.
