High Court Criticizes Spending of Billions on Rangers and Police Amid Recovery Case of Industrialist Zulfiqar Ahmed
Karachi: During the hearing of the recovery case of industrialist Zulfiqar Ahmed, the Sindh High Court made remarks criticizing the expenditure of billions, questioning what the Rangers and Police were accomplishing. Justice Mrs. Kosar Sultana Hussain commented, “What’s the benefit of spending billions? Our children are leaving the country, risking their lives just for a mobile phone.”
The two-member bench headed by Justice Mrs. Kosar Sultana Hussain heard the application for the recovery of industrialist Zulfiqar Ahmed. Present during the proceedings were relevant police officials including the SHO and investigating officer. Justice Mrs. Kosar Sultana Hussain further remarked, “There is so much noise about Rangers, but where are the lawyers? Was this abduction case for ransom?”
The Assistant Prosecutor General stated that it was a missing person’s case and they have returned. The applicant’s lawyer mentioned that they have brought evidence from Karachi and met with officials in Lahore. Justice Mrs. Kosar Sultana Hussain emphasized the issue of businessmen leaving the country under such circumstances.
She further questioned the investigating officer about the utilization of billions in the budget for Rangers and Police. The government lawyer clarified that Rangers are not involved in the case. The court inquired about the progress of investigations so far, to which it was revealed that no statements or appearances had been made on behalf of the applicant yet.
The lawyer representing the applicant assured that Zulfiqar Ahmed would appear in court to record his statement, though he was currently unable to do so. He criticized the police for delaying the registration of the case, alleging various excuses were made to prevent timely action.
Justice Mrs. Kosar Sultana Hussain expressed concern over the exodus of young people from the country, highlighting the risks they face for trivial possessions like a mobile phone. She admonished the police officials, questioning their strength and efficacy in handling such cases, given the substantial public expenditure involved.
She warned the SHO about potential consequences if any harm came to Zulfiqar Ahmed or any associate of his office, implying that action would be taken against the police. The court decided to proceed with the application related to the recovery of Zulfiqar Ahmed.
