Helmet Ban Imposed for University and College Access in Lahore
Islamabad:In a significant move, the Higher Education Department of Punjab has announced a ban on entry to universities and colleges in Lahore for students and faculty riding motorcycles without helmets.
In a directive issued to registrars of universities and principals of colleges, the department emphasized the need for a special campaign promoting helmet use. The memo states that motorcycle riders—both teachers and students—must wear helmets to gain access to educational institutions. Those arriving without helmets will be denied entry, and parking for helmetless riders will also be prohibited.
This decision comes in response to rising traffic accidents and the associated casualties observed on the roads. The Higher Education Department aims to enhance safety measures within educational environments.
Previously, the Government College University Lahore had implemented new uniform regulations, indicating potential disciplinary action against students not adhering to the guidelines. According to a notification from Vice Chancellor Dr. Shazia Bashir, students are required to wear dress shirts and pants, explicitly prohibiting T-shirts and jeans.
