Heavy Rains Cause Roof Collapses in Pakistan, Resulting in 8 Deaths and Numerous Injuries
Islamabad: Continuous heavy rains across various regions of the country have led to several roof collapses, resulting in 8 fatalities and numerous injuries. In the Gomal area of Kot Murtaza in District Tank, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a house’s roof collapsed, killing three individuals, including two women and a child.
Authorities reported that the collapse occurred due to the severe monsoon rains affecting the structure of the three-room house. Three injured individuals have been transferred to a hospital. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sardar Ali Amin Gandapur expressed condolences to the victims’ families and announced financial assistance for the affected families.
In Lower Dir’s Thimbagh Sura Ghundo, a porch collapse resulted in the death of a young girl. Her body was retrieved from the debris by family members and local residents.
In Charsadda, two people were injured when a house collapsed in Umarzai Chandru Dag. One of the injured, 60-year-old Jannat Bibi, later succumbed to her injuries at the district hospital.
In Sindh, heavy rains in various areas of Jamshoro’s Thana Bola Khan Tehsil led to the deaths of two individuals, including a woman. Meanwhile, in Kohistan, regions such as Thana Ahmad Khan, Noriabad, Karachat, Bal, Seri, Pokan, and others experienced varying intensities of rain. Water flow from the Kirthar Hills caused flooding in streams and nullahs, leading to a mosque’s destruction in Sultan Barft village and the deaths of 65-year-old Ali Muhammad Barft and his daughter-in-law when a mud house collapsed in Ali Nawaz Barft village. Some areas also faced disruptions in communication networks due to the rains.
Additionally, in Punjab’s Jhelum, a roof collapse due to rainfall resulted in the death of an injured woman. The incident, which occurred four days ago in Khurd village, had already claimed the life of a ten-year-old girl, with the injured mother and her two-day-old baby being treated in a hospital. The newborn’s condition has stabilized, while the number of deceased in this incident has risen to two.
