Rawalpindi, the twin city and federal capital’s root, witnessed heavy rainfall, plunging the city into darkness due to power outages and inundating low-lying areas with water.
The refreshing showers, accompanied by strong winds, brought pleasant weather, lifting the spirits of residents worn out by the summer heat. The clouds gathered and burst, unifying the cityscape into a seamless blend of rain and mist. Soon after, hail accompanied the torrential downpour.
As the rain began, electricity disappeared from most areas, leaving the city in darkness. Simultaneously, accumulating rainwater submerged low-lying areas. Due to inadequate drainage, rainwater entered many homes, exacerbating the mental strain on residents already grappling with load shedding issues.
It remains evident that the National Disaster Management Authority has issued an alert for the next 3 days due to the chaotic situation caused by rain in various parts of the country. The National Emergency Operation Center has predicted that heavy rainfall could occur in different parts of the country over the next 3 days, which, if exceeding 50-100 millimeters, could lead to flash flooding in streams and rivers.
