Heavy Rainfall Hits Karachi: Severe Water Accumulation and Traffic Disruptions

Karachi:The Meteorological Department has forecasted more heavy rainfall in Karachi today. Despite a lull in rain across various parts of the city, significant water accumulation has been reported on numerous roads following last night’s downpour. Although drainage efforts have cleared water from many locations, some areas continue to experience standing water.

In areas such as Orangi Town, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, and Liaquatabad, water remains collected, with the NEPA Chowrangi also submerged. Model Colony, Quaidabad, Malir 15, and Kala Board also have water standing, and drainage operations are ongoing. A pothole has developed on the road from Hassan Square to Liaquatabad, causing road closures and disrupting traffic flow.

Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz has indicated that a low-pressure system causing the rain is near western Sindh. The city is expected to experience intermittent showers throughout the day and night, with cloudy conditions and light rain or drizzle possible tomorrow.

Sardar Sarfraz also noted that another monsoon system could enter eastern Sindh from Rajasthan, India, around August 10 or 11. This system is expected to bring more rain to the city on August 12 or 13.

According to the Meteorological Department, the highest rainfall recorded from 8 PM last night to 8 AM this morning was 76.5 mm in Nazimabad. Other recorded figures include 72.4 mm in Surjani, 61 mm in Quaidabad, 54.1 mm in Malir Halt, 39.6 mm in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, 37 mm at Faisal Base, 49.4 mm at Old Airport, 42.2 mm at Jinnah Terminal, and 42 mm in Orangi Town.
