Heavy Rainfall Causes Flooding in Lahore and Other Punjab Cities
Lahore:Lahore and various cities across Punjab have been inundated due to torrential rains, with water entering hospitals and homes in the provincial capital.
According to the Motorway Police spokesperson, intermittent rain continues along major national highways. On Motorway M2, rain is ongoing from Pindi Bhattian to Sheikhupura, Kala Shah Kako, and Thokar Niaz Beg. Other affected areas include Manga Mandi, Patoki, Renala Khurd, and Okara, with rain also reported on Motorway M3 from Faizpur to Nankana Sahib.
In Lahore, heavy rainfall has caused water to accumulate in the emergency department of Services Hospital, leading to severe difficulties for patients. The nearby area of Chowk Chohung and the Tajpura locality have also been affected, with rainwater entering homes.
The Meteorological Department has forecast that the intermittent rain in Lahore will continue, with the monsoon rains expected to persist until August 6. Lahore Airport recorded 337 millimeters of rain, the highest in 44 years, while Nishter Town saw 250 millimeters of rainfall.
The Lahore Water and Sewerage Board has reported that this is the highest rainfall recorded at Lahore Airport in 44 years. Additionally, Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) officials stated that over 400 feeders have tripped due to the rain, but power restoration efforts will commence as soon as the rain subsides.
Aside from Lahore, cities including Sheikhupura, Kasur, Pakpattan, Sargodha, Jhelum, Murree, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad have also experienced severe flooding.
In Mirpur, Azad Kashmir, intermittent rainfall continues, causing landslides and fallen trees in various locations.
