Heavy Rain and Snowfall Expected Across Pakistan from Today: Meteorological Department

Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecasted widespread rain and heavy snowfall in various regions of the country starting today, with the possibility of severe weather continuing until January 6.
According to the department’s statement, western and upper regions of the country will experience rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. The entry of western winds into the country from January 1 to 6 is expected to intensify weather conditions. These winds will bring cold, wet weather, including snowfall in mountainous areas.
Regions Affected:
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: From January 1 to 5, districts like Dera Ismail Khan, Swat, Shangla, and Mardan will likely experience rain and snowfall. Light rain and snowfall are also expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Bajaur, Mansehra, Kohistan, and parts of North and South Waziristan.
Punjab and Islamabad: From January 2 to 6, intermittent rain is expected in cities such as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Khushab, Narowal, and other parts of central Punjab.
Sindh: From January 3 to 4, light rain is expected in the upper regions of Sindh, including cities like Sukkur and Larkana.
Balochistan: Between January 1 and 4, areas like Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Chagai, Nushki, Quetta, and Kalat will witness rain and snowfall.
Temperatures in several regions have already dropped significantly. For instance, the minimum temperature in Peshawar was recorded at 1°C, while areas like Chitral, Lower Dir, and Kalam saw temperatures drop to -4°C. Islamabad is also expected to experience a drop in temperature, especially in the evenings.
The Meteorological Department has advised the public to take necessary precautions as the harsh weather may cause disruptions in daily life, including potential travel disruptions in mountainous regions.
