Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi Stresses the Need for Government Consultation with All Madrasah Boards
Chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council, Hafiz Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi, has stated that ten out of the fifteen boards of religious schools (madrasahs) agree that they should remain affiliated with the Ministry of Education. His comments come amid ongoing discussions regarding the future direction of madrasah regulations in Pakistan.
Ashrafi emphasized that the government must take all madrasah boards into confidence before implementing any new laws or amendments related to madrasah education. He expressed the importance of ensuring that any legal changes are inclusive and reflective of the views of all religious schools.
Further, Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi remarked that if the government decides to align the Madrasah Board with the Ministry of Industry instead of the Ministry of Education, the religious schools would not object to the move. However, he reiterated that the primary concern remains to ensure transparency, consultation, and the protection of the interests of all madrasah institutions.
These remarks reflect ongoing debates about the regulation and governance of madrasahs in Pakistan, with various stakeholders calling for greater collaboration and a more unified approach to the sector’s oversight.
