Hafiz Naeem Urges Government to Pass Benefits of IPP Agreements’ Cancellation to Public, Warns of Nationwide Protest
Islamabad:The Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami, Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman, has called on the government to ensure that the benefits of the cancelled Independent Power Producers (IPP) agreements reach the public. He warned that failure to provide genuine relief would result in a fresh wave of protests and a vigorous movement across the country.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Hafiz Naeem emphasized that protesting is a fundamental right of all political parties, and suppressing public opinion would never steer Pakistan in the right direction. He strongly criticized the current political situation and the method of governance, describing the tendency to alter public mandates according to personal interests as highly concerning. He warned that this trend would weaken the country and was an affront to democracy and the public’s will.
Hafiz Naeem reiterated Jamaat-e-Islami’s commitment to ensuring the cancellation of what he called “unjust and anti-public IPP agreements.” He urged the government not to backtrack on its responsibilities, asserting that the party is closely monitoring all government agreements.
The Jamaat-e-Islami leader further stated that the party’s continuous advocacy for justice, democracy, and the rule of law has strengthened its reputation, making it a powerful and effective voice for the people.
