Hafiz Naeem Urges for Average Cost Pricing of Electricity After Price Reduction

Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, has welcomed the reduction in electricity prices, emphasizing that the party’s stance remains that electricity bills should reflect the average cost. In a tweet on the social media platform X, Hafiz Naeem Rehman termed the reduction as a significant victory for Jamaat-e-Islami’s campaign.
He reiterated that Jamaat-e-Islami has consistently called for electricity bills to be adjusted in line with the average cost of production. He also highlighted that the results of their struggle are now evident, noting that the government, which was initially unwilling to engage with Independent Power Producers (IPPs), not only revised the agreements but also announced a reduction in per-unit prices.
Hafiz Naeem Rehman further emphasized the continuation of the party’s “Haq Do Awam Ko” (Give Rights to the People) movement, signaling a continued effort to advocate for the rights of the public. He also conveyed a message of hope for the youth, stating that their efforts would bring tangible results, as seen in this instance.
It is worth recalling that last year, Jamaat-e-Islami organized prolonged protests against the staggering increase in electricity bills and the IPPs, which eventually led to negotiations with the government and an assurance that electricity prices would be reduced.
In a related development, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently announced a reduction of 7.41 rupees per unit in the price of electricity.
