Gwadar:Mahigirs in Gwadar district are facing uncertainty over the allocation of 200 acres of land for the establishment of a housing scheme worth 300 million rupees. Local Mahigirs are deeply concerned as the provincial government has not yet determined the location for the housing scheme despite the passage of time.
Last year in January 2023, former Chief Minister of Balochistan Mir Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo approved the Mahigir Housing Scheme in Gwadar, allocating 200 acres of land and earmarking 300 million rupees for its establishment. The approval was based on a summary sent by the Planning and Development Department of Balochistan.
The housing scheme was aimed at resolving the housing shortage issue for Mahigirs in Gwadar, a long-standing demand of the Mahigir community. However, despite the approval, no progress has been made in identifying the 200-acre land or advancing the project further.
It is noteworthy that the Balochistan government has previously approved health insurance facilities for Mahigirs in Gwadar district, which has yet to be implemented. This delay has heightened concerns among Mahigirs who are demanding immediate action on both the health insurance facilities and the Mahigir Housing Colony.
Mahigirs across Gwadar district are urging the government to expedite the implementation of the Mahigir Housing Colony and provide health insurance facilities without further delay.
