Grand Health Alliance Announces Boycott of Polio Eradication Campaign in Balochistan
Quetta:The Grand Health Alliance (GHA) has declared its decision to boycott the upcoming polio eradication campaign in Balochistan, which is set to begin on December 16. Dr. Bahar Shah, Chairman of the Grand Health Alliance, stated that the boycott is part of a larger protest schedule aimed at addressing ongoing grievances within the healthcare sector.
As part of the boycott, doctors and other medical staff will refrain from participating in the polio vaccination drive across the province. The move comes after a series of symbolic strikes by GHA, which have already been taking place in the outpatient departments (OPDs) of government hospitals in Balochistan.
Dr. Shah emphasized that the protest is not against the polio vaccination itself, but rather against the challenges faced by healthcare professionals in the region, including inadequate resources, poor working conditions, and unresolved issues with government authorities.
The Grand Health Alliance has urged the provincial government to address these concerns and ensure better facilities and support for healthcare workers in order to resume their participation in national health initiatives like the polio eradication campaign.
