QUETTA: Governor Balochistan Jaffer Khan Mandokhail addressed a seminar held at the provincial capital Quetta on the occasion of World Population Day, stressing the crucial need to establish a balance between family size and available resources. He highlighted that discussions and research on family planning and birth control should not be limited to mere statements or documents but must also translate into concrete actions.
Governor Mandokhail acknowledged the government’s efforts in accepting reforms to ensure effective management of population growth and family planning, yet emphasized that several challenges still lie ahead. The seminar, held in connection with World Population Day, was attended by a large number of dignitaries including Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasim-ul-Rehman, Provincial Parliamentary Secretary Hadiya Nawaz, Provincial Secretary Abdullah Khan, and representatives from civil society and various sectors of life.
During his address to the participants of the seminar, Governor Balochistan mentioned that Pakistan ranks fifth among the world’s most populous countries. He underscored that such a large population puts significant pressure on our resources, infrastructure, and environment in a progressive country like Pakistan.
Furthermore, according to estimates from the United Nations, the current global population has exceeded 8 billion by mid-2022 and is expected to surpass 8 billion by 2024. Governor Mandokhail highlighted the scattered nature of Balochistan’s population, stating that while our province’s population is sparse, it presents a challenge to provide essential facilities. He expressed concerns particularly for marginalized communities, urging for standardized education, healthcare services, and accessible family planning services to ensure their well-being.
Governor Mandokhail emphasized that while the majority of our population comprises youth, ensuring their access to quality education, imparting modern skills, and harnessing their hidden talents for the nation’s benefit requires practical planning. He stressed that addressing societal issues sustainably requires social wisdom, advocating for comprehensive strategies to control high birth rates.
In conclusion, Governor Balochistan appreciated the efforts of participants, experts, and organizers in making the seminar successful. He distributed commemorative shields among the participants and organizers to acknowledge their contributions.
