Islamabad: The federal government and allied parties have decided to appeal against the Supreme Court’s decision regarding reserved seats. Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar stated that the recent decision has granted undue relief to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), prompting the decision to appeal. The Sunni Ittehad Council’s manifesto stipulates that non-Muslims cannot become members of their party.
Tarar questioned whether those granted relief had requested it, stating, “A political party has been given a right it does not deserve. We believe the appeal against the decision is justified.”
He further mentioned that PTI did not conduct intra-party elections and their MNAs did not declare themselves as members before the judiciary. “Did they request the relief that was granted to them?” he queried.
The Federal Minister for Information highlighted that PTI has received funding from banned sources and has been under scrutiny for foreign funding for six years. It should be noted that the Supreme Court had declared the decision of the Peshawar High Court and the Election Commission null and void, instructing the allocation of reserved seats to PTI. The Supreme Court has recognized PTI as a party in Parliament and provincial assemblies.
