Government Retracts Decision to Increase Electricity Prices for 200 Unit Consumers
Islamabad:The federal government has decided to retract its decision to increase electricity prices for consumers using up to 200 units. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif obtained approval from the federal cabinet to rescind the immediate circulation of the decision based on urgent grounds.
Under the government’s decision, consumers using up to 200 units per month will receive relief from July to September 2024, with the federal government allocating approximately 50 billion rupees in subsidy.
According to sources, the electricity tariff will remain at 3.95 rupees per unit for lifeline consumers using up to 50 units monthly, while consumers using between 51 to 100 units will continue to pay 7.74 rupees per unit.
Sources added that the Prime Minister will personally announce this package later today.
